In all God’s wide and wonderful world a human is his choicest creation. We are made in the image of God with intense desires and incredible complexity. Within each person are many kinds of longings. For example, we crave meaningful relationships. We long to be valued and seen as significant and important. We desire to have our longings fulfilled, to see our hopes and dreams come to pass. Yet only God knows and understands which of these desires are for our good and which would harm us. Psalms 107:9 says, “For he satisfies the thirsty soul and fills the hungry soul with good.” He can be trusted!
O how we could immensely profit by discovering God’s desires for us, his beloved. God is truly the smartest most intelligent and most compassionate friend we will ever have. In order to receive God’s wisdom he requires a sincere response. “You deserve honesty from the heart: yes, utter sincerity and truthfulness. Oh, give me this wisdom.” Ps 51:6
Do you believe that although God wants us to do good toward our fellow man, doing good is not the ultimate goal? “And when my heart is right, then you will rejoice in the good that I do…” Ps 51:19 “Turn from all known sin and spend your time in doing good.” Ps 34:14 It’s important to remember that God desires a deep relationship with us. We live for him because there is nothing better or more able to fulfill us than walking day by day with Perfect Love. “All were happy for this covenant with God, for they had entered into it will all their hearts and wills, and wanted him above everything else and they found him!” 2 Cor 15:15 It’s clear to see that much of the Christian life is a matter of the heart. This verse tells us how easy it is to give just an appearance of following God. “But it was only with their words they followed him, not with their hearts, their hearts were far away.” Ps 78:16
Can you believe it? God really wants to be our joy in life and give us more, much more than we can ever imagine. Today, let’s embrace a God who cares about the person we are right now. No faking with God! Love him and enjoy seeing his wonderful desires become yours. “Be delighted with the Lord. Then he will give you all your hearts desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him to help you do it and he will.” Ps 37:4 God bless you in your journey of the heart.
