A Time to Heal

Our God is amazingly awesome and deeply caring. He continually reaches out to us in love. “God is ready to give blessings to all who come to Him.” Luke 4:19 He not only desires to give us good things but He also wants us to call on Him for help in troubled times. “Yet the Lord still waits for you to come to Him, so He can show you His love… Blessed are all those who wait for Him to help them.” Is 30:18 It’s true that everyone has great needs but perhaps none is greater than the need for healing.

There is a healing that is more essential than that of the body. It is the healing of the soul. The soul refers to our personality, our heart, our driving force, and the center of our life’s energy. Living in a godless society our souls are becoming incredibly battered, bruised, and beaten. Perhaps we need to ask if we are spending more time and attention on our bodies than on our soul. Countless doctors have observed a connection between the soul and physical and mental health. Some illnesses could be avoided through trusting God and allowing Him to deal with our stress, anger, and worry. We can do our part to build ourselves up in the most holy faith. The disciple James exhorts us to examine our soul and confess when we are aware of wrongdoing. We can ask for healing from the consequences of our wanderings, those times we ignored conscience and His Word. “…and if his sickness was caused by some sin, the Lord will forgive him.” James 5:15 To be forgiven is truly the greatest healing of all.

What about the seasons when we are ill in body or soul and healing doesn’t come? Friends, these are times to rest in God’s gentle arms, knowing that He is intimately involved in the details of our lives. “How precious it is Lord, to realize that You are thinking about me constantly! I can’t even count how many times a day Your thoughts turn towards me.” Ps 139: 17, 18 “…His understanding is unlimited.” Ps 147:5 What incredible joy that God sees us and knows us personally. Because of this we are confident that our souls can prosper even in the difficult times. “Yes, Lord, let Your constant love surround us, for our hopes are in You alone.” Ps 33:22 Dear Father, if it be the time, please heal me. Thank you. Amen.

Song: Mommy and Me

I’m just a wee little button of a gal

But someday I’m gonna be

Walking and talking and lovin’ God

Mommy and me

Mommy read me from a book

Even though I could barely look

Then she sang to me a song

Was a pretty tune but my eyes weren’t open long

Now I’m growing bigger and I’m growing strong

From my head to my toes

            From my knees to nose

            I’ll grow and grow

                  If you follow the Lord

                 And you follow His Word

And remember that Jesus loves me

Happy baby, happy child, happy woman I’ll be

I’m just a wee little button of a gal

                        But someday I’m gonna be

Walking and talking and loving God

                        Mommy and me

Song: Give Me Joy

Give me joy give me joy in the morning Lord

Give me joy instead of despair

Give me joy give me joy in the morning Lord

Sweep away every doubt and care

God came that I might have life

To be experienced abundantly

Now my soul is soaring high

By His Grace I have been freed

The master reaches His love to all

Who will come and dine with Him

So look to the Lord in your circumstance

He’s the Savior of heartache and sin

He is longing to comfort you

And bring you peace of mind

But you must yield to the Spirit’s control

Then great faith and hope you will find

Give me joy give me joy in the morning Lord

Give me joy instead of despair

Give me joy give me joy in the morning Lord

Sweep away every doubt and care

The Happy People

As Christians, we should be people who live by God’s extraordinary inspiration.  This creativity is revealed through the daily leadership of the Holy Spirit at work within us.  He is like a tour guide pointing out the best road to travel.  Following Him, we can discover the countless joys and delights available to man.  “The strength and the happiness of a man consists in finding out the way in which God is going, and going in that way too.”  Henry W. Beecher   Whatever we do and wherever we go we are meant to enjoy life immensely.  It is important to look for the good, the rewarding, and the happy parts of life.  Let this be our constant mindset.  “Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.”  Phil 4:8  Sadly, trouble and sorrow are here to stay but God gives much needed relief.  “Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning.”  Ps 30:5

Our God can be counted on to give glad anticipation and hope for the future.  “For in thee, O Lord, do I hope.”  Ps 38:15  But what is needed to nurture a happy heart?  First, we should recognize that the person of Jesus is our overwhelming positive.  The unchanging Christ is our certainty that life will be worth the living.  Second, true happiness is found in a cleansed heart.  “Create in me a clean heart, O God…”   Ps 51:10  Third, real happiness requires a heart that is at peace.  “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”  Matt 11:28  Because God is able to use all the events of our lives for good, we need to get in sync with Him.  As our Creator and Savior, only He knows what is needed to conform us into His image.  Since God alone is the author of our story, His assessment of our lives is always correct and He faithfully fulfills His plan for us.  In the end “…my soul doth magnify the Lord.”  Luke 1:46  The happy believer lives for the honor of God.  “He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His names sake.”  Ps 23:3

What would life be like if we began to embrace everything good or bad that has ever happened to us?  Happiness is not found in our circumstances but in the One who creates a brand new person that comes to love God more than life itself.  “Happiness is neither within us only or without us; it is the union of ourselves with God.”  Blaise Pascal  Yes, truly happy are the people whose God is the Lord!
