When God Says Wait

There is an aspect of our lives that is difficult to come to grips with and hard to understand.  It is when we suffer.  We are unable to control the seasons of suffering.  Suffering comes at unexpected times and may be for known or unknown reasons.  Whether we hurt emotionally, physically, mentally, or spiritually we are told to talk to the One who loves us best.  Psalms 62:8 “…pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”  We will talk to those we trust.

Suffering for the believer has an important purpose.  Psalms 50:15 tells us that reason.  “I want you to trust me in your times of trouble, so I can rescue you, and you can give me glory.”  Because we live in an instant “you got it” culture we assume that God would act immediately if not sooner.  But God cautions us to respond in a different manner.  Psalms 37:7 “Rest in the Lord, wait patiently for him to act.”  Psalms 37:34 “Don’t be impatient for the Lord to act.  Keep traveling steadily along his pathway and in due season he will honor you with ever blessing.”  Psalms 27:14 “Don’t be impatient.  Wait for the Lord, and he will come and save!  Be brave, stouthearted and courageous.  Yes, wait and he will help you.”

God backs His actions by His amazing character.  For example his kindness and love are great.  Psalms 57:10 “Your kindness and love are as vast as the heavens.”  What about God’s mercy?  “All those who know your mercy Lord, will count on you for help.”  Psalms 9:10 “I am radiant with joy because of your mercy, for you have listened to my troubles and have seen the crisis in my soul.”  Psalms 31:7

Whether we are young or old, well fixed or in want, suffering comes to every person regardless of position or status.  This is the best time to remember God sees us every moment of our life and His thoughts turn to us so that “they would outnumber the grains of sand.”  Psalms 139:18 In our suffering no one understands like our God for He sees the whole picture, the sum of our life.  Let each one of us purpose in our hearts to wait for God to act, trusting His glory to be revealed in us.

The Greatest Secret To Life

Have we settled the issue yet that Jesus is the only way, our only real help for living life?  “You are my Lord, I have no other help but yours.”  Psalms 16:2   What does God’s word say about the person who turns away from this help?  “That man is a fool who says to himself, there is no God!”  Psalms 14:1   “Those choosing other gods shall all be filled with sorrow;…”  Psalms 16:4

What about the believer?  Are we truly excited about Jesus?  “I am always thinking of the Lord, and because he is so near, I never need to stumble or to fall.  Heart, body and soul are filled with joy.”  Psalms 16:8   This is the normal Christian life, devoted and delighted with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   “The Lord himself is my inheritance, my prize.  He is my food and drink, my highest joy!”  Psalms 16:5   Are we daily living a life to please Jesus?  Have we invested our lives without reservation in a personal living God?  “But as for me, my contentment is not in wealth but in seeing you and knowing all is well between us.  And when I awake in heaven, I will be fully satisfied, for I will see you face to face.”  Psalms 17:15

Here on earth we are given everything a person truly needs.  “You are my hiding place from every storm of life; you even keep me from getting into trouble!  You surround me with songs of victory.  I will instruct you (says the Lord) and guide you along the best pathway for your life;…”  Psalms 32:7,8   “…abiding love surrounds those who trust in the Lord.”  Psalms 32:10   Since Christ has provided such overwhelming and outstanding care and provision for us should we not return unceasing love and thanksgiving.  Instead of seeking other paths and those who offer false hope look to Jesus the greatest secret to life.  At last we have found the One who is worthy of the full measure of our lives and we are satisfied with Jesus.
